Note on Operations Haz Mat Class

Meeting was brought to order by Emergency Manager, Kenny Bernard.

August LEPC Minutes were presented and approved as written.

All FEMA applications have now been completed by area residents seeking assistance.

Emergency Manager has met with Brake & Associates regarding the Ellsworth County Comprehensive Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan twice since the last LEPC meeting.  Emergency Manager is waiting on a call back from Topeka for the finalization of requests.  Subsequently, meetings will be established to initiate the planned course of action.

Classes are being taught in the area, please contact John Hirst, ECF for further information.

(Radiological Officer sent questions to Emergency Manager for clarification.  Questions were answered and relayed to Officer via LEPC secretary.)  Randy Packard is encouraging individuals wanting to become certified for mitigating a radiological response to take the course, Radiological Emergency Management, IS-00003 on-line.  (course can be accessed on http://ks.train.org).

No Regional Council Meeting Report was available.  Both Bill Salyers and Tracy Ploutz notified committee of their unavailability to attend today’s LEPC meeting.

It was mentioned that other communities experiencing disasters (flood, fire, ice storms, etc.) recommended establishing ID cards for local Commissioners, off duty fire fighters, mayor, school officials, etc.  Committee discussed the most effective way to establish ID cards.  Bob Kepka will check with the school regarding ID cards for the county being produced at the school.  Kenny Bernard will check with Lincoln County on their production of ID cards.  It was recommended that the cards have the Emergency Management state seal affixed to the cards and that the cards be numbered and updated annually.

An Operations Level HazMat Class for fire fighters will be held this Fall.  Further details will be issued as they are available.
